It’s Advent…

Dear parishioners and friends of our 3 Churches,

It’s Advent – a new Church year. The season’s themes point us to the future, and we are invited to prepare not just for the great feast of December 25 .

This first Sunday we also prepare for the great Second Coming of Christ, and so find ourselves “in between”. We are in between the first and second advents of Jesus. Our faith rooted in the first gives us great expectation of the second, and a firm and clear route to get from the one to the other – the road of the Gospel.

As the Year of the Word moves to its conclusion, let us set out on this royal road with renewed faith and conviction.

Funeral of Fr Ambrose

The funeral of Fr Ambrose, former parish priest of Christ the King and a regular visitor to the 3 Churches to celebrate mass, takes place this Friday, 27 November at 12.30 at St Mary and the Angels in Canton – his home parish.  The mass will be celebrated by the Archbishop.

Under the current restrictions attendance is limited and by invitation only but the mass can be followed on the live stream from the church.  The website is www.cardiffwestcatholics.org.uk

Feast of Christ the King

Dear parishioners and friends of our 3 Churches

This weekend we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. It is one of our parish feast-days, and so a cause of celebration for us all. It marks the last week of the Church’s year. Maybe it hasn’t been the best of years in many ways, but Jesus has been with us nevertheless, and he always will be – for he is Christ the King.

It will soon be Advent…

Dear parishioners and friends of our 3 Churches

Time is rushing on, and it will soon be Advent. Please note all these dates.

On Wednesday 9th December, to start us off there will be an Advent Service 7pm at St Brigid’s, live-streamed as usual. The Diaconate Ordination of Christian Mahoney will now take place at the Cathedral on Sunday afternoon 13 December.

A week later, on Sunday 20th December there will be a Zoom Carol Service for which we will give details later.

In the following weekdays leading up to Christmas, there will be a Children’s Event in each church called the “Bambinelli”. Each child is invited to bring the Christ child from their home crib to be blessed ready to be put in the manger for Christmas. More details to follow.

And finally, our expected Mass times for Christmas will be as follows:

  • Christmas Eve 6pm at St Paul’s and Christ the King, 8pm at St Brigid’s
  • Christmas Morning as on Sundays, 9am at St Paul’s and Christ the King, 10.30am at St Brigid’s

Important note: owing to the large number of people who usually attend, Christmas Eve and Morning Masses will be by booking only. Details of how to book will be given via this newsletter on Sunday 5 December. Please do not try to book before then.
