We are planning our Confirmation programme for those who would like to be confirmed this year – that is current year 8 and up.

This is an important sacrament in the life of our young people. This year we are working with St Philip Evans Parish for the preparation.

This Friday 22 July marks another stage in our return to a more normal way of life in our 3 Churches – for the first time in three years our Archbishop visits us. And we are delighted that it should be our new Archbishop, Mark O’Toole.

Confirmation is always a very happy occasion, and we enjoyed a “home-grown” celebration last year as I celebrated the sacrament myself, according to the directives of Archbishop Stack. However, there is something special and of course appropriate when we welcome our bishop among us.

Whenever priorities in church life are discussed, youth always come near the top. So this is an occasion when we can really show our support for our young parishioners at this important stage in their journey.

So I would like to invite all of us to come to this special Mass – special for those to be confirmed, special because it is our first opportunity to welcome Archbishop Mark here to our part of his diocese. I’ll see you there!

The new Archbishop, Mark O’Toole, will celebrate the Confirmation on Friday 22 July at 6.30pm at St Brigid’s Church. Further information can be obtained from Canon Matthew at matthew@3churches.org .

Dear friends and parishioners

On Thursday evening and Saturday morning, twenty-four of our young people will be confirmed. We have been very impressed by them during their preparation over the past weeks. We are very grateful to catechists Ansti, Megan and Ali for guiding them and planning the celebrations themselves. We all can play a part, too, by praying for them, not only up to but also after the Sacrament. Don’t forget!

A list of confirmation candidates’ names is included in the Order of Service for the upcoming Confirmation Masses on Thursday 15 July and Saturday 17 July 2021 at St Brigid’s and Christ the King Churches respectively.

The Archbishop has delegated Confirmation for this year to parish priests, so we will be able to select our own date. We are also looking at the practicalities of a possible celebration in each of our churches. Further information can be obtained from Canon Matthew.
