Priest: Dear friends, like the leper we know that God can heal us: we intercede for the church, the world and for ourselves.

Reader: Let us pray for the continued strength and safety of Pope Francis as he patiently carries out the mission entrusted to him by the Holy Spirit… Loving father, hear our prayer.

We pray for all the people in the world who long for peace with justice and for freedom from repressive governments and leaders … Loving father, hear our prayer.

Let us thank God for the dedicated people working to care for us all: in hospitals and laboratories, vaccination centres and homes, schools and shops. Let us pray with hope for the worst of the pandemic to pass… Loving father, hear our prayer.

We pray for all those who suffer from leprosy and any kind of skin disease; For all those two, “outside the camp “who feel unwanted or forgotten… loving father, hear our prayer.

We remember with affection father Ray O’Shea, former parish priest of Christ the King, who died a few days ago. Let us pray for the repose of his soul: eternal rest grant into him…

Let us be still for a few moments in the Lords healing presence…

Father Ray had a special affinity with Lourdes as a place of pilgrimage and reconciliation. Let us turn for help to Our Lady of Lourdes as we say: Hail Mary…

A celebration of unity and commitment

The Family Life Commission of the diocese would like to invite all couples whose wedding plans have been impacted by Covid-19, to join them for a Service of Unity and Commitment, along with other couples from across the Archdiocese of Cardiff on Saturday 13 February.

This is a special service for anyone who:

  • was due to get married in 2020 or 2021
  • has had their wedding day postponed, maybe more than once
  • had to change their wedding plans considerably
  • did get married, but the wedding could not be as originally planned

The service will be led by Father Matthew Jones as Priest Advisor to the Commission, and Deacon Christian Mahoney, and live-streamed from St Brigid’s via our webcam.

Though participation will be via live-stream only from 11am on Saturday 13 February, couples will be given the opportunity to play an active role in the liturgy.

While this is primarily a service for the couples affected themselves, you are all welcome to tune in on Saturday to our webcam and join the Family Life Commission in praying for those couples whose married lives have not got off to the start everyone would hope for.

A SEASON BEGINNING WITH ASHES

On Ash Wednesday 17 February this year you are invited to prepare your own ashes, which will be virtually blessed during Mass and then you can put on each other, or on yourself.

A SEASON OF PENITENCE

This year will be marked by the Penitential Rite being emphasised at each Sunday Mass during Lent culminating in communal Absolution on the 4th Sunday of Lent, 14 March.

A SEASON FOR THE WORD

We will restart the Lenten Groups that were cut short last year on the theme ‘Hearts on Fire’.

A SEASON TO SHARE THE LITURGY

Our Sunday evening 6pm Liturgy of the Word via Zoom will offer interactive worship on various themes during Lent. The Zoom code is: 9851280988. The Password is: Church.

AND A SEASON TO WALK WITH JESUS

During this year when so many have joined Jesus in his struggles, we will follow the Stations of the Cross live-streamed from St Brigid’s every Saturday commencing 20 February at 9.30 in place of Mass. We will pause at two or three Stations each week in a reflective way. Most of us can “connect” with at least one of the Stations from our own experience of judging, or assisting, or keeping going etc – the great themes of the Stations. This year we want to bring the Stations alive by listening to one another’s story. One of the organisers Ami Liddington writes: “Lent is fast approaching. We will be running Stations of the Cross every Saturday morning via live-streaming at St Brigid’s. We would love to receive life reflections from as many people as possible, across our 3 Churches.
