Feast of the Assumption

Dear parishioners and friends of our 3 Churches:

Today is the Feast of the Assumption, the main feast of Our Lady in the Church’s year. How much she must be concerned for her children on earth in this time of pandemic. From her place assumed into heaven she still loves us with a mother’s love. Let us ask her to wrap her cloak of protection around us, as she so often does in paintings and sculptures of her as Mother of Mercy. Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most glorious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O merciful, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.

Some good news…

Dear parishioners and friends of our 3 Churches:

In these times of uncertainty, when all too often news is not always of the best, it is wonderful to have some good news to share with you. Archbishop Stack has announced the Ordination to the Permanent Diaconate of Christian Mahoney, to take place later this year on the Third Sunday of Advent, 18th December. Christian, a solicitor by profession, lives in Christ the King parish with his wife Esther and two daughters Alessia and Daniela. As well as his home parishes he assists also at St Joseph’s and the Cathedral, and is Chair of Governors at St David’s College. He has become more widely known in recent years for his work for the National Eucharistic Congress, and Advent and Lent retreats at St David’s with Esther. He represents our archdiocese on the Spirituality Committee of the Bishops’ Conference of England & Wales.

Christ the King Bidding Prayers for the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time (year A)

Priest: In these uncertain times we hear Our Lord saying ‘Do not be afraid’, and so, in faith and hope, we turn to the Father and ask Him to answer our prayers.

Reader: The response to our prayers is “Hear our prayer”

  1. May the Church hear Your voice in the gentle breeze as she seeks to discern the way forward in a post-covid world.

Pause

Lord, in Your mercy: Hear our prayer.

  1. May we emerge from the covid virus as a more compassionate and caring society.

Pause

Lord, in Your mercy: Hear our prayer

  1. We pray for the city of Beirut; for those who died in the explosion and those who grieve; for those who were injured, for those who are now homeless and have lost everything. We pray for the rescue workers, those caring for the sick and injured, those bringing food and shelter. We ask you to enfold this shattered city in Your love and healing power.

Pause

Lord, in Your mercy: Hear our prayer.

  1. We pray for allthose in our 3 Churches who are sick, especially those in hospital, who cannot see their loved ones. May they have a strong sense of their love.

Pause

Lord, in Your mercy: Hear our prayer

  1. We remember all our parishioners who have died recently; receive them into the joy of Your heavenly kingdom, and comfort those who mourn for them.

Pause

Lord, in Your mercy: Hear our prayer.

In a few moments’ silence let us pray for all the other needs we hold in our hearts.

            Pause

We ask Mary to join our prayers to her own, us as we say

Hail Mary ….

Priest: Heavenly Father, we ask you to look kindly on our prayers and heal our ravaged world. We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Welcome back

Dear parishioners and friends of our 3 Churches:

It was wonderful to welcome people to Mass last week. None of the Masses was full to their limit (60- 90 for St Brigid, 50-80 for Christ the King) so please feel encouraged to come along. We hope to reopen St Paul’s with weekday Mass in a few weeks.

For your safety and reassurance we are, of course, complying fully with Church and civil requirements. Remember as the Sunday Obligation is still lifted, you can come to Mass any day.

Our stewards are doing a magnificent job – but we need more! We request that you comply with all directions given by them for the health and safety of all of us.

Please consider whether you can offer this service and contact Ansti at anstic2018@yahoo.com (St Paul’s & St Brigid’s) or Marie at llanishen@rcadc.org for Christ the King.

A new permanent camera means all Masses from St Brigid’s are now steamed, as it is on 24/7, so you can also pay a virtual visit at any time. It can be reached via this website (see the main menu). After the 10.30 Mass you are invited to a “virtual coffee” Zoom #8650173340

Stay safe, stay faithful, stay caring – stay with Jesus!

Fr Matthew
